W latach 1590. zamieszkali oni w jaskini wykutej w skale w odleg\u0142o\u015bci 12 km od \u017b\u00f3\u0142kwi. Z biegiem czasu mnich\u00f3w stawa\u0142o si\u0119 coraz wi\u0119cej i przy wsparciu magnata Stanis\u0142awa \u017b\u00f3\u0142kiewskiego niedaleko od jaskini zbudowali oni cerkiew \u015bw. Piotra i Paw\u0142a, nast\u0119pnie cerkiew Przemienienia Pa\u0144skiego i cerkiew \u015awi\u0119tej Tr\u00f3jcy, a tak\u017ce dzwonnice i cele. W monasterze znajdowa\u0142a si\u0119 cudowna ikona Bogurodzicy, podarowana mnichom przez lwowsk\u0105 prawos\u0142awn\u0105 rodzin\u0119 Krasowskich. W 1721 r. monaster Krechowski przyj\u0105\u0142 uni\u0119 i przeszed\u0142 na obrz\u0105dek greckokatolicki. Monaster s\u0142yn\u0105\u0142 z cudownych ikon, kt\u00f3rych w Krechowie by\u0142o cztery: trzy ikony Bogurodzicy (w tym jedna z Werchraty) oraz ikona \u015bw.
