The Great Synagogue is an old Renaissance synagogue with a defensive tower; a monument of architecture of national importance, located in the historical and cultural reserve Staryi Lutsk. It was built in the 1620ies in the centre of one of the Jewish shtetls of Lutsk. Over a long period it performed the role of a religious, educational, and public centre for Lutsk Jews. In 2021 the premises were handed over for permanent free-of-charge use to the religious organization “Judean Religious Community Chabad-Lubavitch”.
In general, the former synagogue is a cubic building with an attached tower. The architecture of the building is of Renaissance nature. It is characterized by rational clarity, concise forms, reserved decor.
