The Zymne Sviatohirskyi Stavropigial Dormition Convent of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church belongs to the oldest in Ukraine. It is assumed that Grand Prince Volodymyr laid down the foundations for the convent in 992-993 in the village of Zymne that used to be the suburbs of the city of Volodymyr back then.
The architectural complex of the reinforced convent consists of defensive walls with corner towers creating a yard protected against external attacks. The monumental building of the Dormition church which used to have a defense tier above the domes and was covered with a pointed ridge roof with two Gothic frontons is located in the centre of the northern wall line.
