The Basilian Monastery in Ukraine, in the village of Pidhirtsi, Lviv region. It belongs to the Ukrainian Greek-Catholic Church. A monument of architecture of the XVIIIth c. Located in the valley amidst the woods. Built in 1706-1750 in the place of the old Rus monastery that had been founded, as the legend stays, in the ХІІth c. by the Belz princess Olena Vsevolodivna and destroyed in 1241 by the Mongols. The church and the monastery were restored thanks to the effort of the village owner Stanisław Koniecpolski (1592-March 12, 1646). There used to be the library of early printed books in the monastery. In the Soviet times the monastery was a branch of the TB hospital, and only in 1991 it was handed over to the Basilian monks who restored the shrine within a short period. The monastery ensemble belongs to outstanding monuments of baroque architecture of the Halychyna school. Now it consists of the church, the building with cells, the fence, the bell tower, and some smaller buildings.
