The Greek-Catholic Annunciation Monastery of the Order of Basilian Fathers is the oldest in Zakarpattia region. The Boroniava church was founded by father Ivan Kozak who built a wooden monastery and a separate cell in 1716 in the field that he bought from the residents of Khust.
In the 1730ies the monastery was included into the St. Nicholas Basilian province, and in 1788 the monastery was officially cancelled, but it continued its existence as a branch of the monastery in Imstychiv, and the monks continued serving the local Greek-Catholic parish. In 1851 the Boroniava Monastery was officially restored as an independent institution thanks to the effort of the Basilian father Jakiv Bovankovych.
