The Convent of the Order of Barefoot Carmelites is located not far from the central part of the town of Chortkiv. The nuns of this order were invited to Chortkiv by earl Stanisław Potocki in 1635. The convent that is now standing high on the hill was built in the second half of the XIXth century. The convent complex includes a cathedral with a high tower in the central part and a two-storey building with cells surrounding the cathedral along the perimetre. Inside the square of the building with cells there is a spatial inner yard. In 1930, thanks to donations of the Carmelite Convent, a hospital was built to service members of the hospital cash bank. Now the cathedral hosts the Church of the Immaculate Conception of the Holy Virgin. The buildings with cells accommodate a home for the elderly, a house for orphans “Caritas” and a Higher Psalm Reader Catechetic Academy.
