• Ukraine, Zarvanytsia, Ternopil Region

Zarvanytsia belongs to the twenty most well-known global Marian spiritual centres. Legends relate the foundation of the village to the appearance of the Holy Virgin to one monk who, on surviving in the Tatar attack on Kyiv in 1240, was looking for a shelter in the territory below Strypa. The first written mention of the village is dated back to 1458. Zarvanytsia is getting larger and larger from year to year. Over a relatively short period of time in the XXIth centry the building for pilgrims was restored there, a large monastery canteen, a hotel for pilgrims, and a song field, a large recollection house were built, the Studite order and the monastery church were restored, baptismal font of St. Anna was arranged. But a real pearl of this holy place is spiritual centre with the Zarvanytsia Cathedral of the Mother of God.
