The Holy Protection Hoshcha Convent

The Hoshcha Orthodox Convent was founded in 1639 at the St. Michael Church. A school was immediately founded at the convent. In the period of 1629-1672 the Hoshcha St. Michael Orthodox Monastery was the centre of culture and education in Volyn region. It acquired its modern appearances after the reconstruction of 1888. During the restoration the monastery moved at the end of the XVIIth century from the Orthodox to the Greek-Catholic eparchy. In the Soviet period (1939-1991) the monastery was liquidated and was restored in 2004 as the Holy Protection Orthodox Convent. The decoration of the church includes elements of Renaissance and baroque. In the vestry of the St. Michael Church a portrait of the founder Regina Solomyretska-Hoyska is kept.
